Musicfest pays tribute to the late Roger Bright, the local musician and bandleader who was well loved in the polka world. Dancing begins on Friday night with a free performance at the Musicfest tent in downtown New Glarus. A variety of live bands are scheduled to perform throughout the weekend. Whether you kick up your heels or just listen, you'll find lots of good food, beverages, and music—including the famous New Glarus Gemütlichkeit!

Free admission. Festivities start at 1:00. Live music, authentic Swiss food, homemade pastries, and games for kids of all ages. Target shooting at the Schuetzenverein Schiessbude, and the election of our Swiss Queen.

The Hudson Riding Club: 105 Years of Equestrian Tradition Founded in 1901 the Hudson Riding Club looks back on a rich history in tradition and of promoting the art of horsemanship and friendship amongst its members and their families. Founded in Hudson County directly across from mid-town Manhattan on the Hudson River, the first stable was located Weehawken, New Jersey above the entrance of the Lincoln Tunnel. The Club rode from Hoboken north to where the George Washington Bridge now crosses the Hudson River. The club continues to ride for one hour during the week, but at an indoor hall located in West Orange, NJ. Since the first season, members and family have celebrated the conclusion of the riding season. This tradition is still upheld. The race date is strategically chosen to attract some of the top professional teams in the US. One of the top US cycling events will be held in New Jersey and Pennsylvania June 4, 8 and 11 -- therefore a well-promoted race with significant prize money is sure to attract attention from these teams.

Panel discussion with elected experts to include an historical review of the cross-pollenization between the Swiss and U.S. Constitutions, as well as the direct democracy movement in U.S. states (especially 1890-1920) moderated by a well-known news journalist. Speakers will include highly recognized US and Swiss politicians and historians. Come and enjoy dance, music and exhibitions.

This presentation, Masterpieces from the Musée d’art et d’histoire de Genève and Swiss Private Collections, offers the public a singular opportunity to become better acquainted with one of the most original and engaging artists of eighteenth-century Europe, who enjoyed an international reputation in his day, often painting portraits of monarchs and their children in London, Vienna, Parma, and Amsterdam.

Saturday’s Prize Singing and Mass Concert will be held in the Toledo Museum of Art’s Peristyle. Saturday’s Banquet and Ball will be in the Radisson Ballroom. Thursday, Friday & Sunday’s activities will be at Oak Shade Grove.

Swiss artist Paul Klee’s (1879–1940) remarkable work has long struck a responsive chord in America, with both collectors and artists. He was greatly admired by the abstract expressionists for his inventiveness and genius for composition. Earlier, he had a profound influence on Germany’s Bauhaus, and his work was a victim of Nazi art purges.

Born in the heart of Europe during World War I, the Dada movement displayed a raucous scepticism about accepted values and artistic practices and addressed pressing questions posed by modernity itself. This is the first major museum exhibition in the United States to focus exclusively on Dada, one of the most significant movements of the historical avant-garde.

Artist’s Choice: Herzog & de Meuron is the seventh exhibition in MoMA’s Artist's Choice series, in which contemporary artists are invited to select, juxtapose, and comment on works from the Museum's collection. Drawing from across the Museum’s departmental collections, the internationally renowned architects Jacques Herzog and Pierre de Meuron approach the collection not as conventional curators, but as architects. As such, they conceive of the art gallery as a contemporary cathedral. Through this architectural metaphor, they construct surprising spatial relationships among the artworks and the audience, challenging our expectations of traditional installations and exposing our perceptions of the ways in which various mediums fail or succeed to communicate meaning.

Downtown streets will be lined with food stands and colorful sidewalk-sale displays. New Glarus restaurants and food shops are known for their Swiss and European specialties and locally produced gourmet foods and beverages. Taste of New Glarus is your opportunity to sample these tantalizing specialties. Downtown merchants will feature special bargains for shoppers. Live musical entertainment adds to the festive atmosphere.
