|
Stux Gallery 530 West 25th Street New York, NEW YORK Tel: (212) 352 – 1600

Animated storms, computer-rendered explosions of his shelter and possessions, and globally-dispersed subway stations represent the material and the immaterial constructions that helps him mediate the everyday realities of nature, culture, disaster, globalization, communication, love and solitude.

blast wall art-Andrea Haenggi/AMDaT-INVITATION
7/18/2007 - 7/21/2007 8:00 PM
|
MEETING POINT at BRIDGE PARK 1 in DUMBO On Jay Street Brooklyn, NY
JULY 18-21 (Wed-Sat) 8:OOpm
MEETING POINT at BRIDGE PARK 1 in DUMBO
On Jay Street
Just up the hill from F train to York Street-first stop in Brooklyn
FREE
Reservation recommended: [email protected] or 718 218 8236
Navigate with the performers through the hip DUMBO neighborhood to an isolated handball court. As dusk turns to dark, so the dancers, too, give way to the images on the wall. The swiveling video projections, suffused with colors, become a kaleidoscopic additional dancer that attacks, moves against, interacts with, and consumes the live performers. Featuring direction, choreography and video by Swiss-born, New York-based artist Andrea Haenggi, performed by AMDaT company dancers - Einy Aam, Todd Allen, Tori Sparks - and action performers - Benjamin B Kamino, Jill Frere, Andrew Griffin, Sera-Kim Huenergard - percussive live-music by William Hooker (July 18/19) and Lukas Ligeti (July 20/21).
Blast wall art was inspired two years ago by a news article about one concrete wall in Baghdad, meant to protect buildings from bombs but taken over by Iraqi artists as a public canvas. Now, with the U.S. military building more walls that cut through residential neighborhoods, these, too, are being taken over by artists.
“I create a choreographic reflection on a journalist’s reflection of an artist’s reflection on a military reality.” says Haenggi
blast wall art is commissioned by AMDaT, Inc. with support from individual donors. Thanls also to the NYC Department of Parks and Recreation.
blast wall art performances are FREE - ANY DONATION TOWARDS THE WORK IS NEEDED TO ENSURE THE PERFORMERS PAY. YOU CAN MAKE A TAX-DEDUCTIBLE DONATION ONLINE http://www.amdat.org/support or send a check made out to AMDaT, Inc. to 338 Berry St. 6th floor #1, Brooklyn , NY 11211
