JOHN ARMLEDER 5/1/2006
Teresa Lang Center at The New School 55 West 13th Street, 2nd Floor New York, NY
As part of exploring how contemporary artists think about sculpture -- its history, conventions, and legacies -- SculptureCenter, in collaboration with the Vera List Center for Art and Politics at The New School, presents a series of artist-led lectures. Mid-career artists discuss specific works, bodies of work, texts, or even personal anecdotes -- taken from inside and outside sculpture, and inside and outside "art" -- to outline their version of sculpture's history. These subjective, incomplete, partial, misremembered, or otherwise eclectic stories together examine sculpture's evolving strategies, behaviors, dreams, and mistakes over the course of human civilization.

swissnex 730 Montgomery Street San Francisco, CA
Intellectual Property (IP) is essential to the success of any life biotech company and a primary concern to investors, just as technology, marketing and management are. The level of complexity of the issues, the costs, and the challenges faced among Offices of Technology Transfers (OTT) make IP a major headache for the whole industry. Adding to the complexity of the current regulations, the United States Patent Office (USPTO) is about to reform their procedures in a fashion that seems likely to engender controversy. Our speakers will share their experience on the issues and advice that will help us better understand how IP affects the industry. This event is part of the ongoing series "Life Science Breakfasts" organized in collaboration with the French American Chamber of Commerce.

Swiss Photographer Catherine Gfeller at the Ruth Bachofner Gallery in Santa Monica 5/27/2006 - 7/8/2006
Ruth Bachofner Gallery 2525 Michigan Avenue, Suite G2 Santa Monica, CA Tel: 310 829 3300
Ruth Bachofner Gallery is pleased to announce an exhibition of work by
Swiss-born photographer Catherine Gfeller who lives and works in Paris.
Catherine incorporates people, buildings, bridges, windows, cars and every
other fixture of urban life into her photography. She walks through cities
with her camera in hand, snapping pictures of architecture and pedestrians
in their surroundings. There is a sense of immediacy to the images - a
capturing of the photographer's own sudden intrigue with certain, perhaps
momentary, scenes, leaving little time for careful composition and
positioning. Gfeller's work truly emerges back in her studio where she
chooses a single or numerous images which she duplicates, layers and
arranges into linear, geometric compositions. The montaged photographs in
their final state have an ethereal, painterly quality.
A Reception for the artist will be on Saturday, May 27, 5 - 7pm
