Although I lived in Lausanne, I have many memories of Luzern from spending evenings there with a guy I was seeing. I remember taking the train east - the first train after 19h so I could use my pass - and him meeting me on the platform. We would go buy two beers in one of the shops in the station, and then cross the bridge to the lakeside. Since he didn't have a car, we relied on public transportation to get back to his house, which wasn't actually in Luzern proper, but just a bit further out, at the base of nearby mountains. The Postbus to his village ran twice an hour, but unfortunately one arrived at the same time as my train, so we'd have to wait a whole hour after my arrival. A beer in the park by the lake was one of our favorite ways to pass this time. We'd choose a bench facing the beautiful opera house and catch up on the news since we had last met. After an hour long wait and the 15 minute bus ride, we'd be in his little suburban neighborhood, across the road from a huge forest and within earshot of, yes, cowbells.
