One thing I most recollect about the trip were the events of Saturday, November 11th, 1922 when the ships whistles suddenly blew at 11AM. At first we thought the boat was sinking and these were emergency alarm whistles. Why were these whistles so long and so loud, we thought? Possibly the ship was sinking like the Titanic? After many glances of eyes and assorted shouts and mumbles we discovered that this was an Armistice Day anniversary celebration; the 4th anniversary of the signing of peace between those warring nations of Europe. And, being a British ship, having won this sordid affair, they were celebrating their November 11th, 1918 peace accord.
