The countdown is on! In less than one year, the first game of UEFA EURO 2008 will kick off in Basle’s St. Jakob-Park. Co-hosting the world’s third biggest sporting event with Austria, Switzerland will have a great opportunity to showcase itself to the rest of Europe and the world. In addition to Basle, Geneva, Bern, and Zurich will host EURO 2008 games, along with the Austrian cities of Vienna, Innsbruck, Salzburg, and Klagenfurt. Of course, other than Switzerland and Austria, the qualifying teams have yet to be determined (Go Faroe Islands and Andorra!); qualifying matches wrap up later this fall, and the final pairings will be announced December 2nd in Lucerne. Can Alexander Frei lead Switzerland to the championship and then onto even greater glory in the 2010 World Cup in South Africa? Does UEFA EURO 2004 champion, Greece, have what it takes to topple the Matterhorn? Will 2006 World Cup champion, Italy, continue its momentum in 2008? Only time will tell, but the clock is ticking.
