Joining the long line of Swiss expatriates who have made an indelible mark on American culture, Switzerland’s first export to the NBA is starting to turn heads on the same team that Michael Jordan once led to six NBA championships. Proving that mountains aren’t the only tall things in the land of cheese and chocolate, 22-year-old Thabo Sefolosha, who stands more than two meters high and hails from Vevey, Switzerland, is a rookie for the Chicago Bulls and has played in almost every game for his team this season. Although basketball is not as popular in Switzerland as it is in the U.S. or some European countries, a neighbor of Thabo’s in Vevey introduced him to basketball as a child and he’s been playing ever since. Prior to the NBA, Thabo played in professional leagues in France and Italy, as well as on the Swiss national team.
