(born: François Louis Frédéric Haldimand). Military Governor of New York (1773-1775), Governor of Quebec (1778-1786). Born in Yverdon, Canton Vaud. Entered Prussian service as a professional soldier in 1740 but in 1756 joined British Royal American regiment with his friend Bouquet. Kept Quebec loyal to Britain during the American Revolutionary War.
