(born Cynthia Ann Stephanie Lauper). Singer. Born in Queens, New York: Her father Fred Lauper, was part Swiss and part German, while her mother had Sicilian roots. Her first successful album “She’s So Unusual” won her a Grammy for best new artist, and sold nine million copies. Its biggest hit was “Girls Just Want to Have Fun.” She became known for her quirky style and dress, which took the punk look into the mainstream. Since then she has released several more albums, and performed on stage and screen.
