Automobile manufacturer. Born in Zurich, graduated from the University of California-Berkeley in 1961, and joined General Motors in 1963 after taking a master's degree in business administration. From 1974 to 1986 he was with Ford, then with Chrysler from 1986 to 1998 where he became vice-president with responsabilty for Chrysler's car and truck operations worldwide. He then joined Exide in 1998 where he became chairman and chief executive. He returned to GM in 2001 as vice president for product development and Chairman of GM North America.
