With a pierced nose, ripped jeans and pop- star style, Eliana Bürki does not fit the traditional appearance of most alphorn players. Nor do the sounds emanating from her alphorn- which she describes as a blend of blues, funk & jazz- resemble traditional alphorn music.
Bürki began studying the alphorn at age five and playing in concerts by age nine. A dedicated and talented student, she practiced daily, quickly surpassing the 12- note range of most players. With this virtuosity, she was soon able to push the boundaries of the traditional Swiss shepherd's instrument and incorporate her love of blues and jazz. With a CD to her name, Bürki now travels with her band and introduces audiences around the world to her unique alphorn style. March found her in Los Angeles, where she delighted audiences with the new sounds of her alphorn.
