My Mom , Rosa Kunzi was born in Adelboden, Switzerland in 1931 ,,she lived their with her family til she was 6, then her parents Giligan ans Susanna (Jungen) moved the family to Fort St John, B.C. ,Canada to avoid the air bombing that was going on at the time,,They road the big ship , the Montcalm to Canada, 3 weeks later they arrived. Mom remebers her litte sister Lydia learn to talk and walk while they were on the ship. She said they brought their animals with them. When they arrived into Canada they had to stay with another family before they could get their own farm. It took a year and a half, but grandpa bought a farm in North Pine, near Fort St John. Four years after their arrival grandma got very sick after giving birth to mom's little brother Armine. They lost grandma on christmas day
We (my 3 brothers , 2 sisters and I ) grew up knowing we had some relatives way across the ocean whom we thought will never know. It always left a bit of a hole in my heart, being the sentimental child I was, so I made attempts to find a way to search but got no where. One day a friend suggested that maybe the name had changed spelling, sure enough it was an important detail that my mom failed to mention,,I was looking for Kuenzi and when they moved to Canada they dropped the symbols and added the 'e',,,that made the world of difference, thanks to my friend and the help of the internet I found many Kunzi relatives, but have not been so lucky with my Jungen relatives,I am still in search of my grandma's family, Susanna Jungen
